pringle of scotland, tilda style
whether or not my "i'm obsessed with tilda swinton" claims are like a broken record, i'm obsessed with tilda swinton. she's completely nuts in the film, but she looks like a veritable goddess in the ad campaigns. that wide-legged satin pant suit? perched in the middle of a rock wall? sock it to me. her kate lanphear 'do...in argyle? hook me up.
what can't tilda swinton do?

marc jacobs for spring

oh, how i love the eruption of seasonal ad campaigns. and marc jacobs' are truly some of my favorites. so quirky and witty...who doesn't love their models and fashionable celebs popping out of boxes or posing in various bizarre bodily contortions?

lanvin

i love lanvin a lot. i think alber elbaz is a genius, and i love how often tila swinton wears lanvin, because she's batshit crazy/awesome and i have a deep affection for everything she does. the editorial she did in W magazine (sept 2008) is my favorite editorial in the history of editorials.
but, lanvin. i love these ads - especially the menswear one. the waist-high trousers, skinny belt, open cuffs and tucked-in tie make for an unbelievable - and really sexy - look. so beautifully feminine, it's like ysl's menswear-for-women concept flipped on its head. sigh. thank you, once again, alber, for some of the most beautiful eye candy in the world.

lookbook: alexander wang

alexander wang spring 2010 lookbook: i like these looks. sportswear isn't totally my style, but i think he's a genius when it comes to texture, layering, and the conceptual styling of an outfit. i especially love the bubble shoulders on that grey sweatshir - i would wear that piece constantly. i also like the side-by-side beaty/editorial shots.

stefano, i will be your bride
now, i have a bit of a problem. my problem is that, when it comes to ysl, i found it indescribably difficult to be truly critical. i love ysl, i love stefano pilati, and i love the aire of a fashion house that is one of the industry's most iconic institutions. that being said, i am going to put in a little extra effort here and try to present opinions on the ysl spring 2010 line that go beyond, "i live and breathe for it, it can do no wrong." as i was looking through the collection, i'll be honest in that i was constantly wavering between "love it" and "ehhhh, it's okay." there is a lot of white, which is quite different, and the collection definitely improved, for me, as it went on. for stefano pilati's ysl, the beauty is often in the details. so what may look more subdued is actually experimenting with tailoring, cut and shape. out of the entire collection, i want to own one of the uber-voluminous, draped and belted creations in every color (shown on the runway in polka-dot, forest green, and black). ysl started the menswear for womenswear revolution, and stefano has carried that into his designs one thousand fold, infusing more and more of the unisex appeal with which he is so enthralled. the pieces i love, i really love, and those i don't, i appreciate endlessly for the workmanship, love, and thought that goes into them. no matter what, i'll always bow down to ysl, it would just feel too wrong not to.
