photog dreams

apparently i'm on some sort of shoe high this morning, because what stopped me when looking at this image were these ungodly perfect wedges. and then there's the cape, and the impeccable opaque-ness of the tights. this photograph is dreamy.

flats!

i'm a heel lady.

at 5'3", with an athletic pair of gams that look much more ladylike when boosted up by height, it's kind of a necessity. all summer long i tromped along in my massive wedges, scaling any and all surfaces (you can ask brandon and arlene at twentythirtyforty.net about this one) bravely and without difficulty.

but then i decided to run a half-marathon. and start grad school. and work 27 billion jobs. and start driving less and using cta more. and suddenly i realized that i wasn't victoria beckham, and that as much as i love heels, maybe my feet needed a break.

soo...slightly begrudgingly (and far less painfully), i decided to do my feet a solid and embrace flats. it's not nearly as bad as i thought.

although it would be nearly perfect if i had this pair of studded louboutins.

evoking the theatre

i love the theatricality of this editorial. it seems to tell the solitary story of an actress going from onstage to offstage to backstage to out the stage door. when i was acting, my least favorite part - once we got into running the show - was emerging from the dressing room and having to exit the theatre through a throng of residual audience members. unless my family, or a special friend, was in the audience, i much preferred to just sneak out.

that's the story i've made for this editorial.

robin givhan

i had the distinct pleasure of getting to meet and speak with ms. robin givhan, former vogue contributor (she informed us that yes she knows anna wintour, and yes she calls her anna) and current fashion editor of the washington post, last week. warm, funny, and filled with wonderful, fabulous stories, she was a true delight to meet, and shared some vital words of wisdom - we bonded over our being journalists (her, established...me, studying to be - i also assualted her with the first question while sitting in the front row) and she even took the time to email with me.

check out an interview she did with timeout chicago, as well as her articles for the washington post. they're highly relevant, and pose serious questions and observations regarding the place of fashion today.

the cuff of dreams

who has $600 bones to throw my way? sigh. i'm such a sucker for ysl. and gold. and gold ysl. this is cuff is a dream, and only enhances my lifelong goal of someday having a closet which will be comprised of enough ysl pieces to keep me outfitted from head-to-toe, every day of the year.

if you've experienced an actual editorial shoot, then you understand the power of a photographer. a pretty model, good styling, and a fabulous locale mean very little without some creativity behind the lens. again, searching through cool hunter (can you tell that i find a blog and then go craaazy looking through past posts? my endearing passion, we'll call it.), i was struck by robert jaso's vibrant and evocatively saturated fashion photography. discovering that he works primarily for italian vogue made complete sense, and i was again struck by a longing for the brilliance of all things european vogue. can you imagine if these were the pages we opened up to each month, rather than over-styled celebrities?

prada, my belle

i know i've said this before, but when it comes down to some of the mainstays in longstanding fashion houses, i feel that prada is one of the most innovative. quirky, edgy, artful - prada is constantly in the process of reinventing what's come before. i was searching for images of the house's new book: Prada: Creativity, Modernity, Inspiration, and discovered these pants on Cool Hunter.


i unabashedly adore bellbottoms and would destroy anything to my hands on a pair of these.

boho living

oh, how i long to live in one of these extraordinarily bohemian, all-too-cluttered abodes. they are so vibrant, and lively, and expressive - what more could you ever desire in a home? these are homes to which you bring your friends, pop open a bottle of wine, curl up on a couch and talk for hours and hours and hours. i feel like there would be very little to worry about if you lived in one of these homes.

i love clothing that inspires freedom and flounce and flow. i've also gotten into weird animal prints lately. and just weird prints in general.

i need those wide-legged leopard-print pants.

color me fabulous

the colors and styling in this editorial are unreal. i adore all of the variations on green, and especially love the third image with the seafoam green/sky blue painted model. the bubblegum hair colors are fabulous - color can be so intoxicating. i love when it's used creatively.

more is more is more is more

i absolutely love the more is more concept for styling. throw it all on, and keep your look at bedazzled, gemmy, and jacked up as possible. i just recently purchased a black sequin blazer ($27 - thanks forever 21), and a gold & black fabulously draped super-high waist skirt from h&m and am thrilled with these new, exuberant additions to my wardrobe. both = perfect ways to jazz up basics like a hanes men's tee, or a jersey crew neck.

this editorial that i found on kaleidoscope eyes is like a more is more dream come true. jewels and sequins and baubles and so many layers. i love love love.
