best friends / best fashion

let's be real here. the best thing about your best friend being interested in what you love is that they find stuff you never could. and then they send it to you so that you can post it on your blog, and the whole world instantly becomes a better place. kate just sent this to me, and i was absolutely floored. it's the site for a designer named sally scott, who i've never heard of it, and not only are the images and styling insane, but her catalogue is actually comprised of stills taken from videos featuring the model wearing the clothes. how brilliant! not only are we viewing these fabulous clothes, but then we get to see the whole shoot in motion, as well. totally feeds my love of high fashion in everyday situations, as well as an ever-present desire to see fashion presented in new and interesting ways.

scott's styling is a joy, her pieces infused with the french insousiance that makes parisian chic so utterly whimsical and carefree. mixing patterns and textures, her collections are highlighted overall by a smattering of bright colors and a definite attention to layering, both contributing to the creation of entire ensembles which are geniusly unique.

favorite letter: w

two of my favorite w's have merged to create a beautifully dark editorial, permeated with sex, dominance, need, lust, grief, and some searing hot s&m fashion. w magazine and bruce willis...you slay me.

w does some pretty racy husband/wife editorials...i mean, we all remember the, not one, but two brad pitt/angelina jolie editorials. i've seen and loved bruce in pretty much every movie he's ever made (those who know me know of my fanatacism), but this...this beats die hard any day.

so black, so sexy, so much bruce willis.

cfdamn!

ashley olsen in vintage at the cfda awards last night. it's like balmain meets michael jackson meets the floor...but i love it. the olsens really can pull off anything imaginable, while none of it looks as if it is being "pulled off." it just is, and it's magnificent.

also, way to go vera wang...everything about her looks fierce. i'm such a sucker for sequins.

there were others i liked, but i really loved these two. thoughts? your favorites of the evening?

also, much congratulations to:

womenswear designer of the year: rodarte
menswear designer of the year: scott sternberg for band of outsiders, and italo zucchelli for calvin klein
accessory designer of the year: jack mccollough and lazaro hernandez for proenza schouler
swarovski award (for emerging talent): alexander wang for womenswear, tim hamilton for menswear, justin guinta for submersive jewelry for accessory design
geoffrey beane lifetime achievement award: anna sui
international award: marc jacobs (for louis vuitton)
board of director's special tribute: michelle obama

all right, all...i'm off to lay by the pool, and to get some color on this alabaster skin of mine. besos!

summer soundtrack: rolling stones

thanks to kate, i've fallen deeply in love with the rolling stones. i think every summer needs a soundtrack, and this year, they're definitely mine. listening to them makes me feel so sexy, their deep, throaty voices, screaming melodies...they're the definitive epitome of sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll. so freaking sexy.

this editorial is totally evocative...stark, brazen, mocking, witty -- just like the stones. it's delightfully fitting that it's named after one of my favorite rolling stones songs (remixes of which kate and i used to listen to on repeat for hours). at the very least, you all know i love to paint it black.

and now, for some tunes:

and my absolute favorite rolling stones song of all time:

that is, without a doubt, the sexiest song ever.

home is where the heart is

good style doesn't just happen on the body. as i've iterated before, it's an entire lifestyle, and it infiltrates all you do. one of my favorite things is a comfortable home environment. i love being home, i love feeling cozy in my home, and i love, after having been gone while, or even just away at a long night at work, having a home that i'm so glad to see at the end of the day. my college and subsequent post-grad year were very much characterized by a starving artist sort of regime. although my home has always been very lovely and comfortable, it's never been decorated in the way i'd like it to be. i think that, as a guest, you should be able to walk into someone's home and have an immediate sense of who they are and what they love. a good home should be just as much a reflection of your style and lifestyle as what you wear.

now that erin's moving in, we're awash with grand plans of redecoration, and infusing our equally quirky styles into our abode. i've been looking through blogs to find inspiration, and i've found some really lovely images and displays of brilliantly creative style.

i'd love to have this aerin lauder's boudoir. but wouldn't we all?

editor polly mellen's bathroom, decorated with "love" posters designed by yves saint laurent. aka: my dream bathroom.

MAGAZINES! i will never throw mine away. i will make a library of them, and my future husband will love me for it. and then he'll bring me black coffee as as i lay on chaise lounge and peruse them every morning.

this reminds me of kate's room...bless her and endless collection of baubles.

shoes on the floor...looks exactly like my bedroom. a girl should always know her options.

i love stacks of books everywhere. my roommates "love" the piles of magazines that litter my living room, and kitchen, and every open, flat space in existence. i can't help it...i love being surrounded by the clutter of things i love.

organized clutter feels so lovely and comforting to me.

i love this wallpaper. it reminds me of the sponge painting that my mom used to do on the walls when i was kid.

twitter twatter, onto the bandwagon i jumped

after discussing the marketing merits of twitter with someone yesterday, i fiiiiiinally decided to jump on the twitter wagon. because, although it totally freaks me out as an activity for any normal "just livin' my life" individual (who wants everyone in the world to know that they just picked up sushi at whole foods, and that they're now going to eat it...?), it's a great way to market yourself, and to meet people in the market. so we'll see how it goes...

anyhow, now YOU, loyal reader, can follow sassafras on twitter! http://twitter.com/sassafraschic

i've been doing a lot of mini posts recently with quirky things that have caught my eye, so now it's time to inundate you with images. found these on fashion copious, they're from designer phoebe philo's (former fashion director of chloe) 2010 resort collection for celine, and they're pretty sensational.

although i love edge, i tend towards a simpler style with an infusion of edgy elements, which is why i love this collection so much. it's so chic and has such clean lines, yet there are those subtle movements of fabric or a shift in proportion which give it an edgier, more fashiony quality. i think this collection is brilliant, and presented so well with a dead-pan model and full-frontal photography. purely the clothes, and simply to die for.

to see more of phoebe's collection, check it out here on fashion copious...and don't forget to twitter!
