caroline trentini esta el numero uno

i love this editorial, featuring caroline trentini, shot by dusan reljin for numero magazine. it resonates like a dark fairytale, a gothic alice in wonderland of sorts.
it's a sick day for me, folksies...i'm settling in with some diet coke and paper heart. i'm five minutes in and i love it already. check it out, bebes.

tattoo me some fashion

i love tattoos...especially ones that function like jewelry.

although it's not quite practical for me to keep getting tattoos, it's entirely practical (and freaking awesome) to tattoo myself chanel-style.

coming to a chanel boutique near you: chanel temporary tattoos. whaaaaaaaat! look at how gorgeous that necklace is! and sure, i'll stick a couple of jeweled c's on my arm for a while - why not?

at $75 a pop, you can tat yourself 55 times over. i can't wait! i'm going to go crazy.

a sizable soapbox

mind if i take a hearty step onto my soapbox on this bright, blustery sunday morning? okay, here's the thing: yes, models are getting smaller. yes, eating disorders are not a good a thing. and i get that some people don't want to look at a woman who looks like she's dying of starvation. and althought i appreciate v magazine's new size issue, featuring plus-sized models (and some along industry-sized models in the same outfits) does it make sense to promote this in the opposite direction by featuring women who are actually overweight - representing a health issue of equal importance?

this is coco a go go for v magazine, shot by karl lagerfeld. a pretty woman, yes, but is it sensible to say that a woman of her size represents a legitimate size for high fashion/couture modeling?

i think the women in the v shoot are beautiful. that's not my issue. i just wish that people would stop approaching this issue by taking it to the very extreme - throwing larger women in their editorials for shock value, rather than as a legitimate approach to show off and market clothing. that is a model's job - to exhibit clothing in a way that makes what designers have created look good. to do anything else is to belie the nature of the job.

i agree with the london stylist who's telegraph comment was featured on the cut a while back:

“It’s such an extreme response to the size-zero hoopla.
“I think all women want to see images of healthy girls, not women who are emaciated. But, realistically I don't think many women aspire to be a size 18, either. I don't think using outsize models is really the way to change perceptions — it's just an extreme volt-face.Read more: Debating V’s Size Issue -- The Cut http://nymag.com/daily/fashion/2010/01/debating_vs_size_issue.html#ixzz0cDbrgcOC

all i'm asking is that if these people want to change the industry, that they actually work to create change, not to shock, and back the fashion industry into a corner.

hook a sista up at the mini market

i'm currently really into grey footwear. i own black shoes in every possible style, shape, form, and although i'm wonderful at justifying the purchases i make, after a while it gets a little ridiculous. so my new solution? continue buying fabulous shoes, just make them grey. i've also been more than vocal about my love for the wedge. so i'm sure you can imagine how i felt when i saw these babies from swedish retailer, minimarket:

aren't they gorgeous?

and these, too. cerulean is one of my very favorite colors. as a child, i always though it was pronounced "cer-roo-leen."

i hadn't ever heard of minimarket before, but it's amazing, amazing stuff.

gimme yo campaigns, baby

i love refinery29 because they love ad campaigns, and so do i. they also like to post the best of the best, which makes it quite easy for me because then i don't need to search for them.

so here are the best, in all of their marketable high fashion glory.

i ADORE the balenciaga campaign; i think it's genius. and the prada one is fabulous, as well. i love everything prada does, visually. their campaigns, their aesthetic, their styling - all divine.
i wish that my life was a montage of ad campaigns.

twentythirtyfabulous

when i first started freelancing, i interned at twentythirtyforty.net, which i know you all hear me talking about a lot. they do such great fashion, always featuring sublime, effortless styling. their newest editorial is stunning, and i just had to post it (thanks to brandon for generously sending me photos).

the 6th shot is my favorite...i adore those pants.

don't you want her weekend in the country? i do.

zoe style

i love the zoe report - everything i love is as perfectly gaudy and gold and overstated as all of the fabulous pieces rachel zoe dies for. these louis vuitton sequined shimmer booties are seriously amazing, and i want to wear them everything. the heel looks so sturdy, too - i bet they'd be super comfortable.

thanks rz, for yet another one of your ridiculous finds that you can afford in droves, and i can only afford to look at.

semi-wrinkled cotton, olsen style

only ashley olsen could pull off chicago bears colors in semi-wrinkled cotton without looking trashy.  and mk, i'll steal those sleeves and golden animal belt buckle any day. the olsens always put me to shame, gleefully. but as long as i can observe them as delicious eye candy, i'm okay with that.

marc jacobs for spring

oh, how i love the eruption of seasonal ad campaigns. and marc jacobs' are truly some of my favorites. so quirky and witty...who doesn't love their models and fashionable celebs popping out of  boxes or posing in various bizarre bodily contortions?

chanel goes shanghai

if there's one thing i love as much (maybe more? hard decision) than tilda swinton, it's karl lagerfeld. i mean, he has over 200 ipods. and chanel is always a dream. do you love all of the jeweled embellishments in this video? yaaaaaay for pre-fall!

lanvin

i love lanvin a lot. i think alber elbaz is a genius, and i love how often tila swinton wears lanvin, because she's batshit crazy/awesome and i have a deep affection for everything she does. the editorial she did in W magazine (sept 2008) is my favorite editorial in the history of editorials.

but, lanvin. i love these ads - especially the menswear one. the waist-high trousers, skinny belt, open cuffs and tucked-in tie make for an unbelievable - and really sexy - look. so beautifully feminine, it's like ysl's menswear-for-women concept flipped on its head. sigh. thank you, once again, alber, for some of the most beautiful eye candy in the world.

ps: just got this text from my love, alana: (513) i saw a dog taking a shit on the stoop of louis vuitton last night in soho. priceless

paris l'officiel

i love this editorial from paris l'officiel. the tights, the red wedges, the saturation of color, and all of that damned gold. only the parisians could make gaudiness all-too chic.

images found on a blog i just discovered, paris originals. you can never go wrong with paris.

happy new year!

hello my loves...a very HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you! i spent mine at a wisconsin lake house - and although i was wearing sequins, it was definitely too frigid to enjoy any dockside adventures. although a late-night walk in the snow was quite idyllic ;).

2009 was an experience. that's for sure. last night, as my roommate miranda and i were laying on our respective couches - watching jersey shore and old episodes of grey's anatomy, and eating the best chicago-style vegetarian pizza in the entire world - we decided that we both had really good feelings about 2010. i'm definitely excited about moving forward.

i don't really do resolutions, because i think they're kind of an empty deferment of what should just have been done in the first place, and i'd prefer to spend my days sans resolve - but when i was christmas shopping at cb2 before the holiday, i found this splendiferous little gem: a keel's simple diary. now, i'm not a diarist, because i never want to recap my day, it takes a lot of time, and it's just never really been a tool that worked for me. but i did buy this for myself, have it gift wrapped, and then i deposited under my family's christmas tree and eagerly awaited to open it xmas eve. this little diary is amazing. it's filled with pages of quirky little questions and reflections like:

"your day was (choose one): a. high maintenence, b. a reference, c. over the fence."

or

"expectations live up to you - yes/no."

you can go in order, out of order, or 20 times a day if a wish. i've found that the little oddities asked throughout the pages ultimately lead to some self reflection. i did my first entry last night, and am really excited to keep it up.

so, now you all know that i'm indulging in diary-esque practices. and i encourage you all to get one. you can get them at cb2, anthropologie, and, i would assume, at any major bookstore.

there's my soapbox for the day. i hope you all have a relaxing weekend ahead. i'm (not) looking forward to working all night, but am (totally huuuugely) excited about the prospect of doing some ice skating in millenium park tomorrow.

your day has been: a. sweating, b. sweet and sour, c. sorry about it.

?

xoxo,

sassafras
